Tiller Training

Driving the tiller bucket look fun, right? It’s not as easy as you may think, especially when you’re new.

Detroit Firefighter talks about the intensive tiller training he received.

DFD HISTORY
In 1977 Detroit Fire Department put their first enclosed tiller ladder truck in service as Ladder 8.

In 1982 the first 2 rear mounted ladder trucks, which eliminated the need for a tillerman, were placed in service as Ladder 1 and Ladder 27.

  1. I went to the same training in NJ After that long day they said Kid stay in that Engine CO. Now I can say we laugh a lot that day about
    those near misses going down the streets
